A niche market is a service or product, which is in demand by a specific group of people. There are several niche markets which chiropractors can target some of their services at, but to do that effectively you first have to know who your clients are and who are the potential clients in your specific area, close enough geographically to actually be able to visit your practice.

A niche market is a service or product, which is in demand by a specific group of people. There are several niche markets which chiropractors can target some of their services at, but to do that effectively you first have to know who your clients are and who are the potential clients in your specific area, close enough geographically to actually be able to visit your practice.

Markets are like oranges

Markets can and should be split into segments. Not all of these segments can be attracted to your chiropractic services in the same way. If you know who you are aiming at, what their chiropractic needs are, you can acquire the skills and expertise to meet this need then go out and grab those customers that are not having their chiropractic needs met anywhere else. That's where niche marketing really comes into its own.

What is niche marketing?

Niche marketing is about finding small but potentially profitable groups of people who have a need, which is not yet being met but that, could be potentially met by your expert chiropractic services. It needs to be something you can do well, though, as profit from niche markets relies upon those people returning for further treatments. It is only through customer satisfaction that you can create customer loyalty, so be realistic about what you can do well and make the most of it to target previously untapped sections of the market with your chiropractic marketing.

The good side of niche marketing

The whole point about a niche market is that it is a need, which is not being met adequately. That means you will have to compete with fewer chiropractors for your clients in this niche. With a little bit of work targeting your marketing at the right people, you can occupy a comfortable position within this niche market.

How do you know where the niches are?

That's easy. You ask people. You give out a survey to your existing customers, one of the questions being related to whether there are any services you don't provide but which they'd like to see provided by their chiropractor. Put this questionnaire on your website and get even more feedback. Hopefully you will see patterns of what people want. A little research will tell you whether any other chiropractor in your local area provides these services; if they don't, then you just found your niche!

How will you target your niche?

First you need to know the niche well and target your marketing online and offline with the correct keywords to really attract the attention of the niche market you are aiming at.

Offer discounts or coupons to take advantage of chiropractic treatment to get people from your targeted niche through your practice door for the first time, and then concentrate on giving them a good, useful service, which they see some benefit from.

Be true to yourself

Be realistic about what you can do and the niche markets you can provide chiropractic services to, and market yourself appropriately. You need to be able to show your niche market clients that they can get the service from you that they wanted and couldn't get from anyone else so far. They will come back and you have securely bagged some loyal clients from your niche marketing.

Make them an offer they can't refuse

Consider making an offer of a voucher of some kind to attract people to use your services for the first time. Niche marketing is no different to any other type of chiropractic marketing in that sometimes a little something for nothing goes a long, long way. Don't make your offer gimmicky, though. If you've researched your niche market well enough you'll know what these potential clients want from you. Make sure your offer gives it to them, and links them in to becoming loyal to your chiropractic services.

Good niche marketing, like all marketing, is about knowing what people want and giving it to them - well.
